Emmaline Twist - Desperate Measures

Chris Nemeth, member of Emmaline Twist, and I worked in software design & development together back in the day. He called me up at the beginning of my motion graphics career and thought I’d be a great choice to do a music video for the band. The brief was wide open: “just the weirdest, craziest visuals you can come up with.”

I created about 10 different clips with different effects in the initial design phase. Much of the filming was taken around my apartment and was filmed on a phone to give some extra shittiest to the visuals. The piece really came together in the editing, though. The clips were layered and processed to provide a cohesive, evolving look and feel. I spent the most time on cutting and editing to the attack, sustain and decay of the voice and instruments, sometimes matching up what’s on screen with the most prominent sound, sometimes to a sustained guitar build up, sometimes to a subtle bass note in the background.

I am eternally grateful to Chris and Emmaline Twist for putting their faith in me when I was beginning a new career.
